Panama Canal - Broward, FL Fishing Report on 6th Jul, 2026

The summer bite is in full swing here in Northwest Florida, and the action out on the water has been absolutely incredible over the past week. Stable weather patterns have given us slick-calm mornings, allowing us to make quick runs out to our productive deep-water wrecks and reefs. If you have been waiting for the perfect time to get out on the water with family or friends, the current bite is giving us exactly what we look for during peak summer.

What’s Biting: Bottom Fishing & Troll Action Our recent trips have seen phenomenal numbers of hard-fighting reef fish coming over the gunwales. We are consistently hitting our limits on several key species, and the size quality this week has been outstanding.

Red Snapper: The deep-water bottom fishing has been red hot. We are finding large schools of legal-sized Snapper holding tight to structure in deeper water, responding aggressively to both live bait and vertical jigs.

Gag Grouper: The keeper Grouper are starting to show up in better numbers on the deeper ledges. Landing these fish requires heavy tackle and quick reflexes to keep them from diving straight back into the rocks.

King Mackerel & Amberjack: On the way out and back, the surface action has kept our rods bent. Trolling live baits along the temperature breaks has produced some explosive surface strikes from big Kingfish.

Tips From the Deck: How We Are Catching Them With the summer sun heating up the surface water, the key to success right now is dropping baits a bit deeper and downsizing our leaders. The fish can get a little line-shy in the clear summer water, so switching over to lighter fluorocarbon leaders has made a massive difference in turning lookers into biters.

For the big Snapper and Grouper, live pinfish and fresh cut bait dropped right into the structure have been the top producers. If you are joining us for an upcoming trip, make sure to bring plenty of hydration, polarized sunglasses to spot the bait schools, and a camera to capture the memories.
